Marketing

Please read my book!

As a self-published author, I hate marketing, but if you don’t tell people about your book, all the hard work you’ve put into your story will be for nothing. They can’t read it if they don’t know that it is out there.

You can’t simply make a post like the image above and expect people to be interested enough to go to your product page and click the buy button. Imagine watching a show and the advertisement for a product comes on and all they say is buy this or that. It would be boring and ineffectual.

Selling your story to new readers is as important as the story you have written. You have to put some real effort into capturing the attention of a potential reader. You have to stand out and be different to snag a few seconds of their lives. If you can do that, you will be able to have a chance at getting them to click the buy button.

After you have grabbed their attention, you have to be able to hold it while they are reading your description. In order to be able to hold their attention, you have to know who you are selling to. Are you selling to the stay at home mom, the college educated business woman, the teen girl who wants to be a part of the in-crowd, or the beef cake man who spends three hours a day in the gym?

Once you know your audience, you can craft your sales pitch to a specific type of person. I write romance, mostly. Who is my target audience? Single, African American women who like dating white men, educated, professional, attractive, and often BBW women. Their ages range from early twenties to late forties. I have learned who my audience is for my romance stories. Everything that I write in my product pages should be tailored to that audience.
